Where the legacy of Japanese engineering meets the soul of community-driven car culture.
On Saturday, July 20th, Woodburn Cars and Coffee is proud to debut a brand-new themed event: Tokyo Lights — a morning gathering that blends the evocative aesthetics of Japanese street culture with the deep-rooted admiration enthusiasts have for a nation whose contributions to the automotive world have been nothing short of revolutionary.
The influence of Japanese engineering on the global car industry is profound. Through decades of precision manufacturing, relentless innovation, and grassroots motorsport excellence, Japan has given rise to vehicles that not only redefined performance standards, but reshaped the very identity of modern car culture.
Think of the meticulous craftsmanship behind the Honda NSX, developed with input from Ayrton Senna — an exotic built not to be opulent, but to out-think the supercars of its era through balance and response. Consider the Mazda RX-7, a machine built around the radical Wankel rotary engine, delivering a driving experience both singular and sublime. The Nissan Skyline GT-R, especially the R32 and R34, became symbols of unyielding potential — not only for their twin-turbocharged power and AWD prowess but for their near-mythical presence in video games and underground street circuits.
And of course, there is Toyota’s Supra lineage, a platform that evolved from grand tourer to high-revving, turbocharged legend. Vehicles like the AE86 Corolla Levin, known for its featherweight poise and enduring presence in motorsport and pop culture, cemented Japan’s place as the birthplace of the “driver’s car.”
Japan’s cars aren’t just engineered — they’re imbued with philosophy. A respect for balance. A discipline for precision. And a passion for performance that reaches far beyond factory lines. Through endurance racing, touge battles in the mountains of Gunma, or the tire-shredding art form of professional drifting — pioneered by figures like Keiichi Tsuchiya — Japanese motorsport became more than competitive. It became cultural.
Tokyo Lights is a tribute to this ethos — an homage to the icons, both historic and modern, that continue to inspire a new generation of builders, drivers, and dreamers.
But beyond the turbocharged engines and iconic silhouettes, this event is also about something quieter, yet just as powerful: community support.
This inaugural event doubles as a donation drive for Colton Helping Hands Food Bank, a local nonprofit that plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity for individuals and families in our surrounding area. As car culture grows, so too must its compassion. We encourage every attendee to bring:
- Cash donations
- Shelf-stable pantry items
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
In return, we’ll keep you energized with artisan coffee from Café La Onda, a local roastery known for honoring both bold flavor and the communities they serve. Their presence at Tokyo Lights reflects our shared values: authenticity, passion, and generosity.

Why Attend?
Because car culture isn’t just about speed — it’s about storytelling. It’s about the way a perfectly rev-matched downshift feels at dawn on a mountain pass. The way a 90s analog dashboard still lights up your heart like the first time. It’s about how machines from across the world can bring people together in a small town parking lot — to admire, to connect, and to give back.
Tokyo Lights is more than a car meet — it’s a moment. A chance to stand in admiration of automotive artistry, honor its roots, and help our neighbors in a very real way.
Come early. Bring your best build — or just your best self. Bring a donation. Bring a story. Let’s make this first-ever Tokyo Lights a morning of legacy, light, and lasting impact.
